The Uganda music scene is coming up fast. More and more talented artists from all kinds of music styles come up and make their way even outside of the country. Visiting Zanzibar in summer 2006 for the shooting of the film Zenji Flava, about the Zanzibar music scene and hiphop on particular, I met the hiphop duo Sylvester & Abramz from Kampala, Uganda. Their performance on the Zanzibar International Film Festival blew my mind and especially the song Lemelako, their hitsingle, I'm still listening often. I went back to see the guys in Kampala during the filming of my second movie New Voices, about the meaning of hiphop music for youth in Kenya and Uganda. Reggea artist Pato and fellow hiphop artist Lyrical G where also attending ZIFF 2006 and in this film they perform live and explain you about their inspirations and the Swahili language barrier. This clip is a short fragment from the film Zenji Flava.

Go to http://www.panonthenet.com/classics/pan_rebels.htm for the full performance of this selection - "In My House" - as arranged by Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe. In the late 80's a group of young, innovative, progressive, talented and rebellious steelpan musicians known as Pan Rebels left their mark on New York pan as no other has. In many respects Pan Rebels' birth signalled the dawning of the new and current age in the New York pan music continuum. Pan In New York was going to become primarily a youth movement. New ideas, interest and people would become critical components of the New York pan scene. And Pan Rebels was always at the forefront - trying new things although they are not always the ones who received the credit when it became popular. It is not surprising that Pan Rebels started the now-famous New York J'Ouvert celebrations.Simultaneously, a young group of New York electrical and broadcasting engineers known as Basement Recordings were also experimenting and working closely with Yamaha Corporation of America - who recognized their brilliance immediately - to fine tune its digital recording technology. Yamaha provided Basement Recordings with one of it's then-unreleased 24-bit digital recorders to test and make recommendations. The unit was then known as the DMR8 which would become the corner stone on which all future Yamaha digital recordings technology would be based. As faith or luck would have it, many of the engineers at Basement Recordings were also pan musicians. Even before the introduction of the DMR8, Basement Recordings was light years ahead of any other group or production team in terms of producing quality steelband recordings. Since the mid-80's they had already developed a technique they label as the 'box and one' specifically for the steel orchestra. It received rave reviews and write ups in many of the broadcasting and professional audio journals. Now armed with this digital recording goliath - that was in many ways way ahead of its time - Basement now had the tools to capture the full dynamic range of the steel orchestra without compromise. Moreover they were committed to producing outstanding recordings that could stand next to any great music productions regardless of genre - and showcase the greatness of the 'Boogsies' and 'Bradleys,' with any of their contemporaries. In Pan Rebels - Basement Recordings found kindred sprits - young musicians who were not tied to conventionality - furthermore they were not afraid of the presence of technology. Add the great Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, the ultimate unconventional arranger and what you got was magic. Basement Recordings always looked forward to recording Pan Rebels steel orchestra. They were young people; they understood the power and importance of recording and immortalizing their music works/material. As a matter of fact the band's management viewed Basement's recording them as a critical part of their panorama season. World-renowned arranger Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe was perfect as he supported, encouraged and understood what Basement and Pan Rebels were undertaking. Interestingly enough Basement's and Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe's paths would cross many times in other professional arenas in the future - of particular note would be their coming together with legendary master drummer Max Roach on future recording projects. The Pan Rebels - Basement Recordings collaborations produced many recording gems that featured prominent arrangers like Garvin Blake and Pelham Goddard in addition to Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe. Even though the orchestra has been inactive since 2002 - with their musical works and contributions to the New York Steelband music scene, while spearheaded by the dynamic trio of Anthony 'Pra' Trebuse, Gary Rogers and Michelle Williams - Pan Rebels remains a New York steelband fixture.

imdb review by enorme75:The Power Of Salad is really a great movie. It teaches you what is the life of a really underground music band. The kind of band which, by their music extremely violent and their way of thinking it, is really out of the system. The movie shows a lot of live extract (really amazing) and in between, it's kind of "life on the road" things... but well made, not for stupid fans. For those who don't know Lightning Bolt's music, it is a two pieces band from Providence (USA), one guy is playing a very heavy bass while his friend playing the drums at a speed no one can really understand. The drummer also sing/scream in a little distorted mic that is in his mouth... quite strange. Between hardcore techno & noise music. But the thing that is really incredible in this movie is how people are reacting to the band playing live at their different venues. It could be in a kitchen, in front of twelve people, or in an ugly place with 300 people. In each case, EVERYONE is getting completely mad. When you will see this movie - and even if this kind of music is not really yours - i bet that the only thing that you will have in your head is to really see this band performing live. Perhaps because they're only in it for... the music.----buy the real thing from http://loadrecords.com/salad.htmlhttp://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Bolt-Power-Brian-Chippendale/dp/B00006ADFFif you buy it you get wacked out animations and good in sync video

Remember that country-wide hangover in the mid-90's that was Shaq Fever? Well, just call this a tribute to that kind of thinking.NOTE: I apologize for the bad voice-overs in parts of the review. I overestimated the volume needed (due to a few people complaining that they still couldn't hear my voice in parts) and it created a good amount of distortion.NOTE: You may be wondering how I got the review out a few days after I released the trailer. Simple: I was almost done with the review in the first place when I created the trailer.*Music and video credits to come later*

December 8, 2006A Great Musician Needs Your HelpMy Friend Bruce LanghorneBy JONATHAN DEMMEBruce Langhorne, an old friend and musician/composer that I have known for many years has had a catastrophic series of medical events this year, and they are not over yet. Bruce does not have any medical insurance. ...He's a beautiful dude who has had an auspicious but unhighlighted career, including being the guy playing that amazing slide guitar on Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". Tons of other Dylan, Odetta, Clancy Brothers, etc. He scored Melvin and Howard and Fighting Mad for me, also peter fonda's brilliant Hired Hand. He's quite a guy. When Bruce was a 12-year old violin prodigy living in Harlem in the fifties, he accidently blew several of his fingers off with a cherry bomb that he held onto too long. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, Bruce looked up at his distraught mom and said, "At least I don't have to playviolin anymore." He has been a master on all guitars, mandolins, etc, pianos etc over the years and for many years was Dylan's first choice for important guitar parts on the albums and sometimes live, with Bruce playing all these instruments django rhinehart style, working the strings with mostly nubs instead of (his missing) fingertips.Bruce suffered a huge diabetes-related attack on his digestive system in the spring, and then had a stroke in the summer. He is recovering slowly but surely and needs to have a microscopic tumor removed from his brain when it gets big enough -- the tumor is related to his previous problems.Janet told me that Bruce sat down at the piano a couple of weeks ago, played a few notes and then just sat there silent. He told her 'my fingers used to melt into the keys, but now they don't know what to do.' He's in good spirits though, and focused now on trying to get strong for the future operation.Checks can be sent to:"JANET BACHELOR ITF BRUCE LANGHORNE", and mail to JANET BACHELOR629 SUNSET AVEVENICE, CA 90064Jonathan Demme is a film director. His films include Something Wild, Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs and The Agronomist. The interview quoted below appeared in full on the website Film Threat: Truth in Entertainment at filmthreat.com.PETER FONDA SHOWS HIS "HIRED HAND"by Tim Merrill (2003-11-02) How did you hook up with Langhorne? I know he used to be a session guitarist for Bob Dylan, and played on "Bringing It All Back Home" and "Blonde on Blonde." Fonda: He was producing an album for me, "Got to Get You Into My Life," through Hugh Masekela's label. At the time I told him about "Easy Rider," and he told me he thought I ought make that film. Then I came back to work with him again, up comes "The Hired Hand" and I knew who was going to score it. If he were to walk in right now and you didn't see Bruce, you would feel his presence. He just emanates love and kindness, in addition to being a virtuoso on like 50 string instruments. I took him over to Hawaii once, he heard the slack-key guitar and went full-on Hawaiian! But he lives in Venice now, and he also makes a great hot sauce - Brother Bru-Bru's Hot Sauce. Bloom: There are so many things about this movie that are perfect, and Bruce's score is one of them. You can't imagine any other score with this film. And it was his first film score, right? Fonda: Yeah. Universal told me, "You can't just hire your friends, man." But the word "virtuoso," applied to musical instruments, means something. Like if I want a full string section, he'll go play fourteen different violins and violas and cellos. So I have one man I have to pay who can do all this work for me! Then they were okay with him. And by the way, on Bruce's picking hand, his thumb, his index and middle fingers are all stumps. They were blown off in a rocket accident in his backyard when he was a kid. But he had already been playing, so he had the surgeon sort of shave them down a little so he could still finger pick. And that National steel guitar that he favors, and we favored very much in the film because it has such a beautiful tone - how did he get there? He used old electric guitar strings, and this muted picking. So there's a reason his playing sounds like no one else...

Guys... I felt there's a missing piece in my Final Version and I added the missing part. I felt that my final version focused too much on fighting and kinda neglected the important piece that at least for me, represent the heart and soul (or you say the spirit) of this movie ^_^... so this is the real Final Version !!! It has been an honor to make music video for 300, one of my favorites... Hope you enjoy ^_^... This is my final version for 300 Spartan Legacy MV... (some improvements on clip quality + some added scenes...) This is a tribute to Movie 300 and those real heroes who died back in the Battle of Thermopylae around 480 BC. PLEASE!!! I made this MV for personal hobby to show respect to those who sacrificed in the war... Hope history teach us valuable lessons and peace among all nations and races from now... Enjoy ^_^... (I put Alexander at the end because I think the Battle of Thermopylae gave the Greek a chance to regroup and eventually led to the offensive against Persia led by Alexander the Great...)I've notice that lots of people are asking the name of music being used ^_^... below are all the music being used by order...1.最后的倾诉 (Chinese song)2.Returns a King3.Lacrimosa (Chorus version)4.Lord of the Rings - Requiem for a Dream5.Fahrenheit (Chorus version)6.Imperativa (Chorus version)7.Ultimatum (Chorus version)8.Returns a King9.A Gift of a ThistleThanks guys for all your support... I accept all critics because that's what make my MV better... PS: Please!!! no swearing or discriminative political views... otherwise... I will delete them... the world need peace not hatred...
