Pantera was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas, that formed in 1981.[1] Although initially influenced by 1980s glam metal/hard rock bands, thrash metal acts such as Slayer and Metallica as well as traditional metal bands such as Black Sabbath would prove to be influential in the band's significant change in musical direction at the end of the 1980s. From there, Pantera became a key formulator of the groove metal (post-thrash) subgenre of heavy metal music.It would not be until nine years after forming that Pantera saw its first piece of commercial success in its major label debut, Cowboys from Hell. From there, Pantera became one of the most celebrated heavy metal bands of the 1990s. Despite the generally cold reception of the band's first four albums, critics have lauded Pantera's style thereafter; Jason Birchmeier of the All Music Guide considers Pantera to be "arguably the greatest metal band of '90s and ... one of the greatest and most influential metal bands ever."[2] The band has received accolades such as ranking 45 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock[3] and fifth on MTV's "Top 10 Greatest Heavy Metal Bands of All-Time".[4]Due to long-standing internal conflicts, Pantera dissolved in 2003. The following year, the band's guitarist, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, was shot and killed on-stage while performing with his new band, Damageplan.Philip Hansen Anselmo (born June 30, 1968 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a heavy metal vocalist and musician, currently performing with Down. He is best known as a vocalist, lyricist and co-composer for Pantera, but has been involved with numerous other musical projects in heavy metal.Rex Robert Brown (born July 27, 1964 in Graham, Texas) is a bassist, best known for his work with the American heavy metal band Pantera from the time the band formed in the early 80's until its dissolution in 2003. Along with former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo, he subsequently joined Down to replace bassist Todd Strange, and most recently played bass on the Crowbar album, Lifesblood for the Downtrodden. During the early days of Pantera Rex Brown went by the stage name Rex Rocker. It wasn't until Far Beyond Driven that both Rex Brown and Dimebag Darrell changed their stage names. Rex dropped Rex Rocker and was just credited from then on as Rex Brown and Diamond Darell was changed to Dimebag Darrell.Vinnie Paul (Vincent Paul Abbott) (born on March 11, 1964), in Dallas, Texas, United States is a heavy metal drummer and producer most known for his work in Pantera and Damageplan.Paul also incorporates elements of progressive rock and swing into his drumming. [citation needed]Paul is the son of Carolina Abbot and Jerry Abbott, a country music songwriter and producer. He played in Pantera, Tres Diablos, Damageplan, and Rebel Meets Rebel with his brother, late guitarist Dimebag Darrell. His professional musical relationship with his brother often earned them comparisons to hard rock musicians Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Currently, Paul, along with members from Mudvayne and Nothingface, have formed the supergroup - Hellyeah. His biggest influence is Peter Criss of KISSDimebag Darrell (born Darrell Lance Abbott on August 20, 1966, Arlington, Texas -- December 8, 2004, Columbus, Ohio), also known as Diamond Darrell until mid 1992, was the lead guitarist for the heavy metal bands Pantera, Damageplan and Rebel Meets Rebel.

Dionne Warwick's Love at First Sight, a 1977 album released on the Warner Brothers Label introduced the hauntingly beautiful and introspective Peter Larson / Josh Rubins tune "Since You Stayed Here," which was used in their 1985 off-Braodway play "Brownstone". The tune was one of several strong tunes on the album. With the release of this album, Dionne completed her contractual obligation to Warner Brothers Records. It is ironic that mega superstar Dionne, when she signed with Warner five years before for the largest contract ever given a female singer, had been named for the fourth year in a row the top female singer in several national polls. By the time Dionne finished her tenure at Warner Brothers, her recording career had stagnated and was virtually without hits with the exception of 1974's # 1 Then Came You, although she remained a popular television star and a huge concert draw throughout the world. Dionne Warwick was planning to quit the music industry entirely and use her music education skills to teach on the university level. Dionne had completed her Masters Degree from the Hartt College of Music and in 1989 she completed her studies at Hartt which led to a doctorate in Music Education. Dr. Dionne Warwick did a series of lectures on popular music in the 1990s at Harvard and several other Universities in the USA. In 1978, Clive Davis told Dionne "You may be ready to give up the music business, but the business is not ready to give you up." She would soon sign with Davis' Arista Records and would enjoy one of the biggest comebacks in the history of popular music.Bette Midler recorded a cover version of the tune in 1990.

December 8, 2006A Great Musician Needs Your HelpMy Friend Bruce LanghorneBy JONATHAN DEMMEBruce Langhorne, an old friend and musician/composer that I have known for many years has had a catastrophic series of medical events this year, and they are not over yet. Bruce does not have any medical insurance. ...He's a beautiful dude who has had an auspicious but unhighlighted career, including being the guy playing that amazing slide guitar on Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". Tons of other Dylan, Odetta, Clancy Brothers, etc. He scored Melvin and Howard and Fighting Mad for me, also peter fonda's brilliant Hired Hand. He's quite a guy.When Bruce was a 12-year old violin prodigy living in Harlem in the fifties, he accidently blew several of his fingers off with a cherry bomb that he held onto too long. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, Bruce looked up at his distraught mom and said, "At least I don't have to playviolin anymore." He has been a master on all guitars, mandolins, etc, pianos etc over the years and for many years was Dylan's first choice for important guitar parts on the albums and sometimes live, with Bruce playing all these instruments django rhinehart style, working the strings with mostly nubs instead of (his missing) fingertips.Bruce suffered a huge diabetes-related attack on his digestive system in the spring, and then had a stroke in the summer. He is recovering slowly but surely and needs to have a microscopic tumor removed from his brain when it gets big enough -- the tumor is related to his previous problems.Janet told me that Bruce sat down at the piano a couple of weeks ago, played a few notes and then just sat there silent. He told her 'my fingers used to melt into the keys, but now they don't know what to do.' I know he used to be a session guitarist for Bob Dylan, and played on "Bringing It All Back Home" and "Blonde on Blonde." Fonda: He was producing an album for me, "Got to Get You Into My Life," through Hugh Masekela's label. At the time I told him about "Easy Rider," and he told me he thought I ought make that film. Then I came back to work with him again, up comes "The Hired Hand" and I knew who was going to score it. If he were to walk in right now and you didn't see Bruce, you would feel his presence. He just emanates love and kindness, in addition to being a virtuoso on like 50 string instruments. I took him over to Hawaii once, he heard the slack-key guitar and went full-on Hawaiian! But he lives in Venice now, and he also makes a great hot sauce - Brother Bru-Bru's Hot Sauce. Bloom: There are so many things about this movie that are perfect, and Bruce's score is one of them. You can't imagine any other score with this film. And it was his first film score, right? Fonda: Yeah. Universal told me, "You can't just hire your friends, man." But the word "virtuoso," applied to musical instruments, means something. Like if I want a full string section, he'll go play fourteen different violins and violas and cellos. So I have one man I have to pay who can do all this work for me! Then they were okay with him. And by the way, on Bruce's picking hand, his thumb, his index and middle fingers are all stumps. They were blown off in a rocket accident in his backyard when he was a kid. But he had already been playing, so he had the surgeon sort of shave them down a little so he could still finger pick. And that National steel guitar that he favors, and we favored very much in the film because it has such a beautiful tone - how did he get there? He used old electric guitar strings, and this muted picking. So there's a reason his playing sounds like no one else...
