6/1/07, Champlain Valley Fairgrounds: The Marlboro Man cannot hold a candle to the elite group of Air Cowboys that travel around the world flying balloons at various festivals and gatherings. After all, can the Marlboro Man float 4,000 feet in the air and land wherever the current takes him? These single-minded cowboys are obsessed with flight. From the first time they went up in a hot air balloon, they knew there was no other life for them. The Fourth Annual Vermont Balloon and Music Festival took place June 1-3, 2007. There was hot-air ballooning, family entertainment and carnival fun at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction. The Festival features up to 40 colorful sport balloons and special-shaped balloons from across the region and country. I went up in a Press Balloon Flight early Friday morning. It was my first time and I was petrified. My pilot was Art Voltaire (I kid you not) Moller from Albuquerque New Mexico. Four of us spent 2 hours in a tiny wicker basket floating through VT wilderness, mountains and forests, losing all sense of direction. You don't know where you are landing when you go ballooning. The wind takes you where it pleases. You can only control your up and down. We landed in Willow Hill Farm in Milton and luckily, the farmer was nice enough to let us park there. The landing was bumpy and we had to sit in the balloon basket waiting for our ride to get there - the wind pulling and tugging at our still-aloft parachute. As scared as I am of heights, it was invigorating. Even if I did have this creepy sensation that I could have jumped out at any point and plummeted to my death. Maybe next time. For now, I am just glad my camera didn't fall on its head.Featured:http://cvexpo.org/VTBalloon.aspxMusic: cccome? Song featured in Sami Yusuf's "My Ummah" album, done with english text of the lyrics.I made this after watching Sami Yusuf and Isam on a concert together performing this song. They pointed out that this song speaks of any troubled children in the world, even if some lyrics explicitly point to the Palestinian struggle. All of the videos on this song that I saw on YouTube represent that particular struggle only. I'd like to return to the concept of the creators of the music, and try to incorporate all of the world's children's suffering-- this is my attempt at it.Please rate it and tell me what you think-- constructive criticism is highly preferred over blind offense, and appreciation is always welcomed. If you want to help, give your time or your earnings to causes you believe in. It's not how much you give, it's that you give. This is my preference charity outlet that I trust, but you can choose your own:www.islamic-relief.com (International)www.irw.org (USA) - recipient of Four Star Charity by Charity NavigatorCorcerning Music and Islam:After searching the quran and found empty on any banning of music, I turn to Hadeeth:Hadeeth Shahih Muslim (excerpts from www.quran.net)Muhammad, peace be upon him allows the enjoyment of singing and musical instruments. Hence, music is not haram.Book 004, Number 1942: " 'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) came (in my apartment) while there were two girls with me singing the song of the Battle of Bu'ath. He lay down on the bed and turned away his face. Then came Abu Bakr and he scolded me and said: Oh! this musical instrument of the devil in the house of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him)! The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) turned towards him and said: Leave them alone. And when he (the Holy Prophet) became unattentive, I hinted them and they went out, and it was the day of 'Id and negroes were playing with shields and speare. (I do not remember) whether I asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) or whether he said to me if I desired to see (that sport). I said: Yes. I stood behind him with his face parallel to my face, and he said: O Banu Arfada, be busy (in your sports) till I was satiated. He said (to me): Is that enough? I said: Yes. Upon this he asked me to go."Song/Music are just tools, like talking, that can deliver both good and evil. Talking can do a lot of harm (backbiting, gossiping), but Talking in general isn't haram - only backbiting and gossiping is haram. Music does the same, so why some people want to claim it Haram, when it is only a tool to perform good or evil. Listening to good music is like listening to talks of good and beauty of the creation of Allah, and listening to raunchy music is like listening to gossip. So claim haram to only those music that are lustful and profane, but not all music - especially good music.Book 033, Number 6422: "Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying. Allah fixed the very portion of adultery which a man will indulge in. There would be no escape from it. The adultery of the eye is the lustful look and the adultery of the ears is listening to voluptuous (song or talk) and the adultery of the tongue is licentious speech and the adultery of the hand is the lustful grip (embrace) and the adultery of the feet is to walk (to the place) where he intends to commit adultery and the heart yearns and desires which he may or may not put into effect."King Abdullah claim title "Guardian of two Holy Cities" website reference:"On the death of King Fahd on 1st August, 2005, the title of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques was assumed by King Fahd's successor, King Abdullah." --- is from Ministry of Hajj, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia website:http://www.hajinformation.com/main/d10.htmanother reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Custodian_of_the_Two_Holy_Mosques

READ METhis is a very short scene from a film I worked on in mid 2005 called Buchenwald.Buchenwald was a German concentration camp known for some of the worst and most bizarre crimes committed during the dark years of the holocaust. The movie is about a prisoner who has been in the camp for one week, who spends a night without sleep to talk to a prisoner who has been in the camp for a year. They exchange stories about life before Buchenwald while the movie flashes back and shows their stories. Through the stories we see how alike one mans week is to one mans year. This short scene from Buchenwald isn't a story or flashback; it is the imagination of the man who has been imprisoned for a full year. He was once a musician but is now forgetting what music even sounds like.Played by my good friend Markandeya who is a wonderfully talented pianist and guitarist. ImmortalityDeath is not the end. It is not even the beginning. It is merely an illusion. Heaven and earth will pass away, but existence is all there is; it cannot pass away. We know not the form that we will take, but we will be transformed with the renewal of life in the ever more perfect state of spiritual evolution. Love your life, and that of every creature; hold it dear, for that, and not the vessel of clay which you perceive in the mirror, is who you really are. Know yourself and love yourself, and love the Creator with your whole being. Do this, and you will not taste death.

On Death Anniversary of Nisar Bazmi. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaNisar Bazmi Birth name Syed Nisar Ahmed Born 1 January 1924(1924-01-01) Origin Pakistani Died 22 March 2007 (aged 83) Genre(s) Contemporary instrumental Occupation(s) Composer & music director Years active 1944--2007 Nisar Bazmi (1924 -- March 22, 2007) was a respected music composer of the Sub-continent from Pakistan. Nisar Bazmi was responsible for introducing Alamgir to film music in Pakistan and the famous duo of Laxmikant-Piyarelal were musicians with him before the partition of South Asia. He was born in 1924 in Khandesh, Naseerabad, India . His father was Syed Qudrat Ali. He had no musical background. Nisar Bazmi's musical interest impressed the prominent Indian musician of Bombay, Khan Saheb Aman Ali Khan who taught him music. Equipped with artistic talent, young Nisar Bazmi, who was just 13 at the time, quickly mastered the various ragas, the musical instruments and took all music lessons to heart. In 1939, the All India Radio (A.I.R) hired him as an artist, which later proved to be a stepping stone for his future aspirations. The magic moment came in the year 1944 when he composed some songs for a drama, Nadir Shah Durrani, which was broadcast from the Bombay Radio Station. All the songs of this drama were hits. A new Indian film producer at that time was moved by Nisar Bazmi's composition and asked him to compose music for his film Jamna Par. After that he enjoyed a successful career in India, composing music for almost 40 flims, with 14 films released after he migrated to Pakistan on June 21, 1962. Once permanently settled in Pakistan, he resumed his music career by simultaneously composing songs for two movies. Director Raza Mir's movie Lakhoan Mein Aik's mega hit songs extol the virtues of Nisar's top rated composition.During his musical career in Pakistan he composed many hit songs for Runa Laila, Ahmed Rushdi, Noor Jehan and Mehdi Hassan. http://cdbaby.com/cd/vanarmenyaGOMIDAS VARTABED - KOMITAS (1869- 1935)One of the most renowned Armenian Churchmen and musician of modern times was Gomidas Vartabed, also known as Komitas. He was born Soghomon Soghomonian in Kutaha, Asia Minor in the year, 1869. His life had an interesting turn of events, when at the age of eleven, he was orphaned, and at a young age he was sent to a Seminary in Etchmiadzin to study. Because of his singing prowess, he decided to teach music at the Seminary after he completed his studies. In 1896, Soghomon was ordained a monk or "apegha" of the Armenian Church. A few years later he was ordained a "Vartabed", and as is the practice in the Armenian Church assumed his new name "Komitas"(or Gomidas).Komitas learned a great deal of music from the monks and continued to study music with the famous composer Kara-Mourza, which eventually led Komitas into both secular and religious music. Komitas continued to study music, and in 1896, he was awarded a doctorate degree in musicology. He later returned to Etchmiadzin as a choir director, and Instructor of music at the Seminary.Komitas wrote over three thousand songs in Armenian, Arabic, Kurdish, and Persian, and also contributed significantly to the modern Armenian Badarak. His main contribution was to rediscover Armenian folk music. He spent years traveling throughout the provinces and visiting many villages listening to native songs and dances, and making notes of them for further analysis. His work in arranging and collating the folk music he had collected over the years eventually became excellent songs for chorus music, and made the public aware of the existence of true Armenian music. In addition to the folk music, Komitas arranged the entire music of the Divine Liturgy (Badarak) of the Armenian Church, for male voices. The internationally known priest was the first non-European to be a member of the International Music Society. Komitas performed concerts in Paris, Geneva, Berne, Constantinople, Venice, and Alexandria. It is interesting to note that in the spring of 1915, during the imprisonment of leaders of the Armenian community, Komitas too was taken into custody. Through the efforts of Henry Morgenthau, Ambassador from the United States of America, and the Turkish poet Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, who admired Komitas' work, Komitas was released. After the April 24, 1915 massacres of the Armenian people by the Turks, he succumbed to mental and physical anguish and never fully recovered. Komitas lived as if a walking corpse for the next twenty years. The revered holy man died in Paris on October 22, 1935 in a mental hospital. One year after his death his ashes were transferred to Yerevan and interred in the Yerevan Panthenon. In the 1950's his manuscripts were transported from Paris to Yerevan where they were being studied and published

Examples of Censorship in the history of music. I thought it would be sort of comical to use three of Madonna's videos to show three out of four of the reasons why music videos are banned. Videos:"Pagan Poetry" - Bjork"Me So Horny" - 2 Live Crew"Like a Prayer" - Madonna"Justify My Love" - Madonna"What It Feels Like for a Girl" - Madonna"Rock DJ" - Robbie WilliamsSongs:"New York City Cops" - The Strokes"Censorshit" - The RamonesAlbum Art:"Is This It" - The Strokes"As Nasty As They Wanna Be" - 2 Live Crew"Yesterday and Today" - The Beatles"Beggars Banquet" - The Rolling Stones"Slippery When Wet" - Bon Jovi"Appetite for Destruction" - Guns N' Roses"Ritual de lo Habitual" - Jane's Addiction"Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins" - John Lennon & Yoko Ono"Virgin Killer" - The Scorpions"Death Certificate" - Ice Cube"Windowlicker" - Aphex Twins"Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" - The Arctic Monkeys"Blind Faith" - Blind Faith"Electric Ladyland" - Jimi Hendrix"Holy Wood" - Marilyn Manson

Rare MTV news clip that aired in 1996 the day that Tupac was pronounced dead. Chronicles 2Pac's hip-hop career: a strange, terrible and beautiful saga. 2Pac is the greatest of all time... Rest in peace Tupac Amaru Shakur - you are missed.Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 -- September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names: 2Pac, Makaveli, or simply Pac, was an American artist renowned for his rap music, movie roles, poetry, and his social activism. He is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best selling hip-hop artist, with over seventy-five million albums sold worldwide including over fifty million in the United States alone. Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up around violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society, and sometimes qualms with other fellow rappers. Shakur's work is known for advocating political, economic, social, and racial equality as well as his raw descriptions of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and conflicts with the law. Many fans, critics, and industry insiders rank him as the greatest rapper ever.In 1990, Shakur was a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative rap group Digital Underground. Shakur's debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, gained critical recognition and backlash for its controversial lyrics. Shakur became the target of lawsuits and experienced other legal problems. Later, Shakur was shot five times in a recording studio lobby in Manhattan and was robbed. Following the incident, Shakur grew suspicious that other figures in the rap industry had prior knowledge of the shooting and did not warn him; the controversy would help spark the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry. After serving eleven months of his sentence, Shakur was released from prison on an appeal financed by Marion "Suge" Knight, the CEO of Death Row Records. In exchange for Suge's assistance, Shakur agreed to release three records under the Death Row label. Shakur's fifth album, the first double-disc release in hip hop history All Eyez on Me, counted as two albums. On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, and died six days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest at University Medical Center, Las Vegas.Shakur's work has influenced many modern rap artists. Eminem, Nas, Lloyd Banks, Rick Ross, Ja Rule, The Game, and 50 Cent all acknowledge his influence on their work. The likes of Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Pharrell, Ghostface Killa, Lil' Scrappy, DMX, Lil' Jon, Mary J. Blige, Juvenile, Outkast, Jermaine Dupri, WC, Sean Paul, Ice Cube, Missy Elliot, Mike Tyson and Nelly have all named songs by Shakur that they personally enjoyed.Studio albums1991: 2Pacalypse Now 1993: Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. 1994: Thug Life: Volume 1 1995: Me Against the World 1996: All Eyez on Me 1996: The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day TheoryPosthumous studio albums1997: R U Still Down?
