The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was a historic event held at Max Yasgur's 600 acre dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969.To many, the festival exemplified the counterculture of the 1960s and the 'hippie era'. Thirty-two of the best-known musicians of the day appeared during the sometimes rainy weekend. Although attempts have been made over the years to recreate the festival, the original event has proven to be unique and legendary. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest moments in music history and was listed on Rolling Stone's 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll. The event was captured in a successful 1970 documentary, Woodstock (subtitled '3 Days of Peace & Music'), directed by Michael Wadleigh._______________________Part 11. Sunday, August 17, 1969. The third day, after Joe Cocker's set, a storm disrupted the events for several hours. The rock/folk band Country Joe and the Fish resumed the concert around 6 pm. This is a slide show of North American Guqin Aossoication's events review. Background music Liu Shui Flowing Water played by Wang Fei, director of the North American Guqin Association. This piece is more than 700 years old, and is perhaps the most famous Chinese classical composition. The story behind it concerns the scholar Yu Boya and his friend the woodcutter Zhong Ziqi. The guqin music played by Yu Boya was as grand as the high mountains and as lively as flowing water, but only Zhong Ziqi could perceive this in his music. As a result of this mutual appreciation they became very close friends. When Zhong Ziqi died, Yu Boya destroyed his guqin and vowed never to play again, because he felt nobody else could understand his music. This is the origin of the Chinese expression zhi yin -- "knowing the sound", which means a confidant or soulmate. The version played by Wang Fei is the same as that included on the gold CD to represent Chinese music, sent into space by NASA in 1977. NAGA was founded in 1997 by Wang Fei, an internationally known guqin player. Its mission is to promote aspects of Chinese culture through the traditional art of the guqin and to build a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the Chinese and American communities. In the last ten years NAGA has grown in membership and has increased the number of programs it offers to the public. It invites guest presenters and performers to its events as a way of expanding its mission of bringing Chinese cultural heritage to local communities. For more information about NAGA and Guqin, please visit http://www.guqin.org

London: Sep 19. Earls Court. Vodafone Live Music Awards 2007.Had a great shooting position thanks to getting bounced out of the O2 Mobos. Thought we'd try our luck at Earls Court. Freezing day - summer's over - and only 4 hours wait till the action began. Lots of Brit slebs, many of whom were good enough to pop over and commune with the fanpod. All over by six for us, then back to the Colonel for a post gig round-up and greasefest.Who we saw...StereophonicsLil ChrisMichelle Heaton (Liberty X)Rachel StevensLisa SnowdonJimmy CarrTara ReidSyd and Michelle (sling)Holly WilloughbyLouise RedknappGail PorterAshleyBoys from In The Hands of the GodsShane Jacobson "Kenny"Avid Merriam (Bo Selecta)Nicky GrahamOrsonCalvin HarrisKate NashDebby HarryCSS (Brazillian Band)As usual, please let me know of errors, omissions and comments. Earl's Court, London: 20 February 2008.What a night for fans of British music. Dozens of top artists filed past on the red carpet outside Earls Court on yet another freezing day. Quite a challenge for fans too. There were few good shooting positions and plenty of competition for them. Some of my regular fan-mates couldn't run fast enough to get a good spot when the gates opened. It was bedlam. One girl fell in front of me and it seemed unseemly to step over her and my prime place was gone. Fortunately security made sure unaccredited media were chucked out, leaving me with an OK spot on the barricade. Things have a habit of working themselves out. Lots of kids and their parents in the crowd that all added to the atmosphere -- it's half term btw. Plenty screaming from them, it seems they love all the stars and aren't self conscious about saying it loud. Listen to the sound if you need confirmation. Seemed odd to hear primary school kids discussing rehab, and not the song! Plenty of opportunity for the autograph folk, though many of the biggest names snuck in around the back to avoid the hubbub.Celebs and artists spotted...Matt WillisKyser ChiefsAdeleBeth DittoOne Night OnlyLeona LewisWill YoungNancy and Vic ReevesMikaMark RonsonRihannaShane WardThe HoossiersBen MillerAlan CarrLamarDavina McCallSean LennonK T TunstallArtic MonkeysCatherine JenkinsOzzy, Sharon OsbourneKate NashAlesha DixonKelly RowlandKimberley WalshSarah HardingJames BluntTess DalyVernon KayTake ThatAs usual, please let me know about errors, omissions and your comments. 6/1/07, Champlain Valley Fairgrounds: The Marlboro Man cannot hold a candle to the elite group of Air Cowboys that travel around the world flying balloons at various festivals and gatherings. After all, can the Marlboro Man float 4,000 feet in the air and land wherever the current takes him? These single-minded cowboys are obsessed with flight. From the first time they went up in a hot air balloon, they knew there was no other life for them. The Fourth Annual Vermont Balloon and Music Festival took place June 1-3, 2007. There was hot-air ballooning, family entertainment and carnival fun at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction. The Festival features up to 40 colorful sport balloons and special-shaped balloons from across the region and country. I went up in a Press Balloon Flight early Friday morning. It was my first time and I was petrified. My pilot was Art Voltaire (I kid you not) Moller from Albuquerque New Mexico. Four of us spent 2 hours in a tiny wicker basket floating through VT wilderness, mountains and forests, losing all sense of direction. You don't know where you are landing when you go ballooning. The wind takes you where it pleases. You can only control your up and down. We landed in Willow Hill Farm in Milton and luckily, the farmer was nice enough to let us park there. The landing was bumpy and we had to sit in the balloon basket waiting for our ride to get there - the wind pulling and tugging at our still-aloft parachute. As scared as I am of heights, it was invigorating. Even if I did have this creepy sensation that I could have jumped out at any point and plummeted to my death. Maybe next time. For now, I am just glad my camera didn't fall on its head.Featured:http://cvexpo.org/VTBalloon.aspxMusic: cccome? Japan's fascination with figure skating has amazed me for some time. In my blog I once mentioned their enthusiasm for Flamenco. Iceskating is another national pride they have been investing in. Prominent athletes have been enjoying a high social status. Surely, advertisements seem to go well with these national heroes and heroines.Tokyo is now hosting the World Iceskating Championship. Thousands of people flock to the indoor ice stadium to watch several young skaters from some four season countries. Teens would throw roses and Teddy Bears after each perfomance. The whole country is suddenly warmer in the remaining wintry season as each skater slides on the thick ice layer accompanied by the best of world musical compositions.Takahashi Daisuke is one of Japan's treasures. Dubbed as the Prince of Japan, he won the silver medal two days ago (March 24)in the prestigious event. Like a true Samurai, he pushed his rank up from fifth to second next to a French skater (You can see in the clip the audience cyring as Takahashi, now emotional himself, finished his memorable perfomance). With the standing ovation and the cry subarashii (great!), he is the first Japanese male ever to have won such a distinction.Using my cell phone, I recorded his live performance from our TV!Post Script*The shouts in the background came from my wife*Thanks to Susan, my friend from Indonesia, who for a while was my consultant in YouTube stuff.
