London: Sep 19. Earls Court. Vodafone Live Music Awards 2007.Had a great shooting position thanks to getting bounced out of the O2 Mobos. Thought we'd try our luck at Earls Court. Freezing day - summer's over - and only 4 hours wait till the action began. Lots of Brit slebs, many of whom were good enough to pop over and commune with the fanpod. The Uganda music scene is coming up fast. More and more talented artists from all kinds of music styles come up and make their way even outside of the country. Visiting Zanzibar in summer 2006 for the shooting of the film Zenji Flava, about the Zanzibar music scene and hiphop on particular, I met the hiphop duo Sylvester & Abramz from Kampala, Uganda. Their performance on the Zanzibar International Film Festival blew my mind and especially the song Lemelako, their hitsingle, I'm still listening often. I went back to see the guys in Kampala during the filming of my second movie New Voices, about the meaning of hiphop music for youth in Kenya and Uganda. Reggea artist Pato and fellow hiphop artist Lyrical G where also attending ZIFF 2006 and in this film they perform live and explain you about their inspirations and the Swahili language barrier.This clip is a short fragment from the film Zenji Flava.

The $4,000 tuition does not include an additional $800 for airfare. On her own, Georgiana has managed to save $1,000 towards this trip. Unfortunately, the HMF offers no scholarships. 09/18/2007 New York World Festival - Sounds of the Mediterranean - Central Park SummerStage http://www.summerstage.org/Orchestre de Tanger - The Orchestra of Tangier, is under the direction of Ahmed Zaitouni, the 76-year-old founder of the Conservatory of Tangier who is widely considered to be the last living legend of Moroccan Andalusian music. Zaitouni studied with many great masters of Andalusian music, including the revered Sheikh Moulay Ahmed Ouazzane. The orchestra, comprised of graduates of the Conservatory of Tangier, features virtuoso musicians on rebab (fiddle), oud (lute), violin, viola, tar (tambourine), darbouka (goblet drum) and vocals, along with guest artist Abderrahim Souiri, one of the most popular Andalusian vocalists in Morocco. Since its formation in 1981, the orchestra has performed at many prestigious music festivals and events in the Middle East and Europe and received international recognition for its recordings of traditional Andalusian music. Its performances feature excerpts from the classical nuba repertoire - vocal and instrumental suites which evolved over 1,000 years ago in Cordoba, Spain (which was ruled by the Moors) and are credited to the Baghdad musician Zyriab.

The patch I'm playing with is called Hard Ramp AS1&2. I made the background beat using FL Studio.PS. I've read some reviews of this vid as if I'm trying to be a "keytar" player (apparently not a desirable thing, but how can you not like Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein") and that I should just play a real guitar. LOL @ some of those same people who probably play guitar hero (nothing against it but hopefully you see my point)! The irony! The point is, folks, if you find a fun/inspiring sound to jam with, by all means, you should JAM WITH IT! I don't care if you find a $3.00 plastic trumpet. Don't worry about the technicalities and what people say. In the long run it's about the fun that YOU have making music.Thanks for watching!!!

Frederick Hohman plays Tu es Petra (Thou Art the Rock) from the Byzantine Sketches of Henri Mulet upon the Great Organ of Methuen Memorial Music Hall, in Methuen Massachusetts USA. This is an excerpt from a concert given on 29 September 1996. The complete 30-minute program is one episode from the Midnight Pipes tv series. Music events occur at the hall year-round, but especially well-known are the summer series of Organ Concerts on Wednesday evenings. This video is from one of the rarer, Sunday afternoon organ concerts.There is a history and an interesting story behind the organ at Methuen. Originally a Walcker organ from Germany from the mid-19th-century, it was first installed as the organ at Boston Music Hall, and it was the first concert hall organ in the United States. In the early 20th-century this hall was constructed in what was then a rural suburb of Boston, and the organ was relocated and housed at Methuen Memorial Music Hall ever since. The organ was updated and enlarged by Aeolian-Skinner, and in recent years, additional updates and fine maintenance make it function today as a fully modern concert pipe organ. As you will see from the video, the organ at Methuen has one of the most impressive organ cases in the world, and the decorative appointments of the hall interior are noteworthy. When house and acid house come to england in late 80s ambitious promoters took the music to large temporary sites such as fields, handling up to 30, 000 people in a single illegal event, called a rave. Promoters like Sunrise, Energy, Biology, Fantasia and World Dance held massive events in defiance of the police and music industry. Unlike many nightclubs they were open to all ages and races. The press lead the general public to believe that the events were shaped solely by the consumption of ecstasy, but others pointed out the music was refreshing and intoxicating enough without consumption of drugs. The British tabloid press helped publicize the scene, generally portraying rave parties in a negative light, which tended to alarm institutions such as the government and the police. December 8, 2006A Great Musician Needs Your HelpMy Friend Bruce LanghorneBy JONATHAN DEMMEBruce Langhorne, an old friend and musician/composer that I have known for many years has had a catastrophic series of medical events this year, and they are not over yet. Bruce does not have any medical insurance. ...He's a beautiful dude who has had an auspicious but unhighlighted career, including being the guy playing that amazing slide guitar on Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". Tons of other Dylan, Odetta, Clancy Brothers, etc. He scored Melvin and Howard and Fighting Mad for me, also peter fonda's brilliant Hired Hand. He's quite a guy.When Bruce was a 12-year old violin prodigy living in Harlem in the fifties, he accidently blew several of his fingers off with a cherry bomb that he held onto too long. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, Bruce looked up at his distraught mom and said, "At least I don't have to playviolin anymore." He has been a master on all guitars, mandolins, etc, pianos etc over the years and for many years was Dylan's first choice for important guitar parts on the albums and sometimes live, with Bruce playing all these instruments django rhinehart style, working the strings with mostly nubs instead of (his missing) fingertips.Bruce suffered a huge diabetes-related attack on his digestive system in the spring, and then had a stroke in the summer. He is recovering slowly but surely and needs to have a microscopic tumor removed from his brain when it gets big enough -- the tumor is related to his previous problems.Janet told me that Bruce sat down at the piano a couple of weeks ago, played a few notes and then just sat there silent. He told her 'my fingers used to melt into the keys, but now they don't know what to do.' I know he used to be a session guitarist for Bob Dylan, and played on "Bringing It All Back Home" and "Blonde on Blonde." Fonda: He was producing an album for me, "Got to Get You Into My Life," through Hugh Masekela's label. At the time I told him about "Easy Rider," and he told me he thought I ought make that film. Then I came back to work with him again, up comes "The Hired Hand" and I knew who was going to score it. If he were to walk in right now and you didn't see Bruce, you would feel his presence. He just emanates love and kindness, in addition to being a virtuoso on like 50 string instruments. I took him over to Hawaii once, he heard the slack-key guitar and went full-on Hawaiian! But he lives in Venice now, and he also makes a great hot sauce - Brother Bru-Bru's Hot Sauce. Bloom: There are so many things about this movie that are perfect, and Bruce's score is one of them. You can't imagine any other score with this film. And it was his first film score, right? Fonda: Yeah. Universal told me, "You can't just hire your friends, man." But the word "virtuoso," applied to musical instruments, means something. Like if I want a full string section, he'll go play fourteen different violins and violas and cellos. So I have one man I have to pay who can do all this work for me! Then they were okay with him. And by the way, on Bruce's picking hand, his thumb, his index and middle fingers are all stumps. They were blown off in a rocket accident in his backyard when he was a kid. But he had already been playing, so he had the surgeon sort of shave them down a little so he could still finger pick. And that National steel guitar that he favors, and we favored very much in the film because it has such a beautiful tone - how did he get there? He used old electric guitar strings, and this muted picking. So there's a reason his playing sounds like no one else...
